Frigiliana, Torrox and Nerja host the Costa del Sol International Basketball Tournament in September
The ninth edition of the Costa del Sol International Tournament, organized by the Diputación de Málaga, will be held from September 5 to 7.
The axárquicos municipalities of Torrox, Frigiliana and Nerja will be this year venues of the meetings that will face Unicaja Basketball, Real Madrid and Zenit of St. Petersburg, which is added as a guest team to the list of clubs that have already gone through this tournament .
This was announced Monday by the president of the Diputación, Francisco Salado, accompanied by the vice president and deputy of Sports, Juan Carlos Maldonado, during the presentation ceremony, which was also attended by the mayor of Frigiliana, Alejandro Herrero; that of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo; and the Councilor for Sports of Torrox, José Manuel Fernández Nieto. Also, in the presentation have been the president of Unicaja Basketball, Eduardo García; the sports director of Real Madrid Basketball, Alberto Herreros, and the delegate in Malaga of the Andalusian Basketball Federation, Ricardo Bandrés. Salado recalled that
“in the sports field, whenever we have the opportunity we encourage and try to come to Malaga sports events like the one we had this weekend with the Spanish Basketball Team in a tournament to prepare for the World Cup in China that It has been a great success. ”
In addition, he added,
“we have opted for the Basketball King’s Cup, which will be next year.”
In this sense, Maldonado has highlighted the “absolute commitment” of the Provincial Council “with sport, with basketball and with the municipalities”, and has stated that “our function from the Sports Area is to continue working because the values of the sport and that tourism projection that allows the municipalities of Malaga and the capital itself to be a reference in this important section. ” With this goal in mind, the Provincial has been organizing this tournament for nine years to bring elite basketball to all Malaga fans. And is that “when you talk about sport in the province of Malaga you have to talk about basketball, a sport that is increasingly more,” said Salado. He also detailed that “we try to make the tournament rotate throughout the province” leading large and small municipalities to teams such as Unicaja Basketball, Real Madrid and invited clubs that are European leaders, such as the Benetton de Treviso , the Armani Jeans Milan, the Cibona of Zagreb, the Partizan of Belgrade, the Russian Khimki, the Fenerbahçe of Turkey, or the Alba of Berlin. Last year the invited team was Olympiacos, and in this ninth edition the Zenit of St. Petersburg will be. The Russian team and Unicaja will open the tournament on September 5 in the sports hall of Torrox. The tournament will continue on September 6 in the Villa de Frigiliana pavilion with the meeting between Real Madrid and Zenit, and on September 7 will culminate with the match between Unicaja and Real Madrid in the Nerja municipal pavilion. All matches will be played at 8 pm and tickets can be purchased at the headquarters municipalities at a price of eight euros, as they have indicated.
